Frozen burritos are one of the best convenience items to keep stocked away in your freeze, for any time of day. Of course, processed foods are often demonized as the culprit to our health problems, but as a dietitian and mom pulled in 10 directions at any given time, I love and rely on these types of convenience foods to stay energized and meet my health goals. On busy days when you just don’t have the time or energy to put together a balanced meal, healthy frozen burritos can give you essential energy, plenty of protein, and a solid fiber boost.

Sure, you can eat a frozen burrito plain, but I really love to doctor them up with leafy greens, chopped veggies, salsa, and avocado. And while a microwave works in a pinch, the air fryer, toaster oven, or oven can make this freezer food into a crunchy on the outside, warm and gooey on the inside, craveable meal. We tested 11 burritos to find the best-tasting, healthiest ones to stock your freezer with!

Burritos we tested:

Best Overall: Amy’s Cheddar Cheese Bean and Rice Burrito

While the quality of ingredients used in Amy’s products is superior to most, the flavor and texture are what get us every time. They’re better when made in the oven or toaster oven, so you can get that crispy tortilla crunch, but in a pinch, they warm up well in the microwave, and the tortilla stays soft. We loved the gooey texture and Mexican-infused flavors of this burrito. With 340 calories, 12 grams of protein, and only 2.5 grams of saturated fat, this burrito can easily fill you up on its own if you don’t have the time to add extra fixings to it.

Best Organic: Red’s Organic Chicken, Cilantro, and Lime Frozen Burrito

Unless you’re part of the small percentage of people who think cilantro tastes like soap, you will love the burst of flavors in this burrito. With plenty of citrusy lime and peppery cilantro, each bite was absolutely delicious. The other ingredients include chicken, beans, corn, and rice, which all mesh nicely together inside the flour tortilla. One thing to mention is that the burrito burst open some while cooking, so be prepared to eat this one on a plate with a fork. With only 270 calories and 12 grams of protein, you may need to add some nutrient-dense toppings to this burrito or eat two in order to keep you full and satisfied.

Best Vegan: Amy’s Vegan Black Bean and Vegetables Frozen Burrito

While some vegan burritos use meat substitutes and plant-based dairy, Amy’s keeps it simple with a flavorful combination of beans and vegetables. Even without cheese, the filling was soft and had a great texture. We love that it uses basic, organic whole food ingredients and has 6 grams of fiber in each burrito. The only downside is that it has just 8 grams of protein, so you may need to add another protein source to make this vegan frozen burrito into a complete, filling, and satisfying meal.

Best Breakfast: Good Food Made Simple Chicken Apple Sausage Egg White Frozen Burrito

Frozen burritos made the perfect meal any time of day, breakfast included! We loved the flavor of these breakfast burritos with apple chicken sausage and egg whites, and the 14 grams of protein and 3 grams of fiber was the perfect start to the day. Some breakfast burritos with eggs warm up into a soggy mess, but these burritos stay intact when warmed in the microwave. If you don’t have a huge appetite or a lot of time when you wake up, this breakfast burrito may be the perfect size to get your metabolism revving and energy flowing in the morning.
