Here’s the thing about buying meat online: Aside from the obvious convenience, online meat shopping means access to meat from smaller, more sustainable farms and to cuts that may not be readily available in your area. Bonus: Many online butchers also offer pastured poultry and eggs, wild-caught fish, and various other sundries. In other words, you can load up on all the delicious, healthy proteins you like without leaving home.

These are some of our favorite places to buy meat online.

1. US Wellness Meats

An OG in the grass-fed meat world, this company has been around for 20 years. All of the beef is 100% grass-fed and -finished, whether you’re buying steaks and chops; ground beef or hot dogs, meatballs; beef bacon, sausage or jerky. Place a one-time order (there’s a $75 minimum, but shipping is included), or opt for a customizable subscription that leaves the contents and the frequency up to you.

US Wellness Meats also offers Primals, larger cuts that cost less per pound and give you the opportunity to cut the thickness you like (e.g., get a 6.25-pound slab of ribeye or a 15-pound whole inside round). These are perfect for sharing or for stocking up that extra freezer, if you’re lucky enough to have one. You can also get lamb, bison, seafood, pork, poultry, game, bone broth, tallow and suet, offal and more.

2. Butcher Box

With this online meat subscription service, you can set it and forget it and enjoy your favorites every month, or get a mixed box and be surprised each time. Choose all beef (grass-fed and finished); beef and pork; beef and chicken or a combo. No matter what, you’ll receive your subscription box, frozen and in eco-friendly packaging, at the frequency you choose.

3. Porter Road

Shop once, or sign up for a subscription—with this Nashville-based butcher, the choice is yours. The beef is pasture-raised on farms in Tennessee, Pennsylvania, and Kentucky, and there’s plenty of variety, whether you’re looking for brisket, dry aged ground beef, a tomahawk ribeye, or just some kid-friendly hot dogs. Porter Road also offers beef stock, marrow bones, heart, and liver, so they have you covered no matter what you’re cooking.

4. D’Artagnan

If your tastes tend toward the fancy or exotic, this one’s for you. Along with popular cuts of beef, D’Artagnan offers high-end meats, including both Japanese and American Wagyu beef. You can also get heritage-breed chicken, turkey and pork; lamb, veal, and game (including rabbit, venison and wild boar); charcuterie and pates; truffles (the mushroom kind, that is); ready-made compound butters and demi-glaces; caviar and more. We also love that this is a female-founded meat company.

5. Pre

Pre’s 100% grass-fed and -finished beef is sourced from Australia and New Zealand, where cows can graze on nutrient-rich grasses year round and animal welfare standards are high. The vacuum-sealed meat (which is also Halal compliant) is available in stores as well as online. You can get ground beef on the leaner side (up to 95% lean) or less so (as low as 80%), higher-end steaks like ribeye and filet, go for some chuck roast, or something in-between. Buy one box (choose your own or get a curated box, like the Whole30 Meal Prep Box), or make it a subscription and save 5%.
