October 5, 2024

There’s nothing like the flavors of fall: pumpkin, maple, apples, cinnamon. Trader Joe’s always leans into the season with tons of meals, snacks, and treats to fit the season — and though we love them all, some are better for us than others. We asked dietitians to walk the aisles and pick out their favorite Trader Joe’s fall items, so you can pick up the best ones on your next shopping trip.

1. Honeycrisp Apple Cinnamon Greek Yogurt

Creamy, protein-packed Honeycrisp Apple Cinnamon Greek Yogurt captures fall in every bite. “It has a pretty typical amount of sugar (10 grams of added sugars per serving), but this means you can probably skip any sugary additions and stick with wholesome toppings like sliced almonds, hemp seeds, or a dollop of natural peanut butter,” says Mackenzie Burgess, RDN, a registered dietitian nutritionist and recipe developer. Yogurt’s well-known probiotic benefits may help with healthy digestion, mood, and overall well-being.

2. Maple Spiced Nut Mix

With healthy fats, protein, and fiber, the Maple Spiced Nut Mix has serious staying power for those busy fall days. “Each quarter-cup serving provides 5 grams of protein, along with a decent amount of iron and potassium,” Burgess says. Enjoy it by itself as a satisfying snack or toss some into a leafy greens salad paired with goat cheese.

3. Gluten-Free Pumpkin Ravioli

“As someone who follows a gluten-free diet, Trader Joe’s Gluten-Free Pumpkin Ravioli is my go-to fall product. It tastes just like regular ravioli,” says Megan Huff, RD. Made with kabocha squash, pumpkin puree, and warm spices, this ravioli tastes just like the smell of fall. “They’re perfect with a drizzle of olive oil and some sage,” Huff notes. “Add some of Trader Joe’s chicken meatballs — another of my favorites — and sauteed zucchini to make it a complete meal.”

4. SugarBee Apples

“A seasonal variety, SugarBee Apples are uniquely sweet due to cross-pollination from honey bees,” says dietitian Caroline Thomason. Bake them into tarts and pies, top overnight oats with them, or just snack on them when you crave something crunchy and sweet.

5. Pumpkin O’s Cereal

Pumpkin O’s Cereal pairs perfectly with vanilla Greek yogurt for a balanced snack,” Thomason says. This cereal includes real pumpkin, not just pumpkin flavor, and is made from a blend of whole grain brown rice and whole grain oats, making it a healthy start to a busy fall morning.

6. White Stilton Cheese with Apple and Pear

Trader Joe’s has a way with cheese, including the autumnal White Stilton Cheese with Apple and Pear. “It’s delicious, naturally sweetened with fruit, and immediately elevates your charcuterie game this fall,” Thomason says. Enjoy it on a cheese board, crumble it onto a seasonal salad, or use it to add oomph to a grilled cheese sandwich.

7. Gluten Free Pumpkin Bread & Muffin Baking Mix

“I love the Gluten Free Pumpkin Bread & Muffin Baking Mix — it’s so delicious that I buy it every year,” Huff says. “For a healthier twist, serve it with almond butter for extra fats and protein, and add banana slices for a boost of fiber to help keep you fuller for longer.”

8. Nonfat Pumpkin Greek Yogurt

Trader Joe’s Nonfat Pumpkin Greek Yogurt combines the nutritional benefits of Greek yogurt with the seasonal flavor of pumpkin. “Greek yogurt is high in protein, which helps with satiety and muscle maintenance, while being lower in sugar and fat compared to many other flavored yogurts,” says dietitian Trista Best. “Pumpkin adds a boost of vitamins A and C, along with fiber, supporting immune function and digestion. The live and active cultures in this yogurt can promote gut health through beneficial probiotics.”
