You’ve heard it before: Meal planning is the key to eating healthier. Personally, if I know what I’m going to make for dinner for that week, it stops me from eating cheese and crackers for dinner, because there’s nothing else in the house — or ordering takeout pizza. But meal planning requires more than great recipes and a detailed grocery list. You also need the right tools — specifically, some food storage containers.

But not just any containers.

These Are the Best Food Storage Containers

I remember when I first started meal planning, I used a bunch of inexpensive, plastic containers to store my food. I quickly learned why they were so cheap: I would bring a container of soup to work and it would leak all over my bag. They also stained easily whenever I used something with tomato sauce or turmeric.

So, I did some digging on Amazon and came across these glass containers from Prep Naturals.

The 30-ounce, thick-walled containers are microwave, dishwasher, and freezer-safe with a leak-proof, ventable lid — and they have close to a five-star rating on Amazon. Which, if you’ve ever looked at Amazon reviews, is pretty dang impressive. Nearly all of the more than 12,000 reviews were outstanding:

“These are spectacular! They are strong and very durable,” one reviewer said. Another reviewer said “I’m in love with these! An awesome set. I will be looking to buy more in the future.” I was sold!

I’ve used these containers every single week for five years now and the reviews do not lie. These are really great kitchen containers. They don’t warp, they never smell, they don’t stain, and they never leak. I also like being able to see exactly what’s in there when I’m digging around in the fridge.

The containers help me with portion control, too. Or, at the very least, they give me a better sense for how much I’m eating. And ultimately, these containers have made me want to meal plan (and therefore eat healthier) because they make things easier.

I use them for absolutely everything: soups, leftover pizza, blueberries, homemade granola — really anything that needs to be stored in the fridge or freezer.
