Cleaner Cocktails for a Truly Happy New Year
You want to party on New Year’s Eve—but the morning-after consequences are never fun. Plus, there’s nothing like a hangover to make keeping those I’m-going-to-get-into-the-best-shape-ever resolutions really tough.
Here’s a solution to this common dilemma: Drinks made with more wholesome ingredients and no refined sugar. The lack of excess sugar can help you sip more slowly (instead of chugging like a rookie). Also, you know how terrible you feel after overindulging in sugar alone; adding alcohol just compounds the pain.
“The artificial mixers and additives found in the average cocktail, which we consider a ‘chemical shitstorm,’ are what are causing your headaches, bloat, and overall inflammation—you know, the typical hangover,” write health coaches Beth Ritter Nydick and Tara Roscioli in their book Clean Cocktails, which features “exceptional cocktails made with freshly expressed or freshly squeezed fruit and vegetable juices and purees packed with vitamins; fresh herbs containing loads of nutrients; and spices known to reduce inflammation, such as cinnamon, cayenne pepper, and ginger.”
