Why Gelatin Earned a Spot in My Pantry

I’d been looking for simple ways to support things like gut health, joints, skin, and hair, which is what first got me interested in collagen. But I didn’t really want another supplement I had to remember to take every day.

While researching, I came across gelatin, which comes from the same source as collagen but can be added directly into recipes instead.

At first, I was mostly interested in trying it for homemade gummies. I had been seeing a ton of viral recipes online and liked the idea of making a version that felt a little healthier and more functional than the store-bought kind.

What I didn’t realize was how many other recipes gelatin could improve once I started cooking with it.

How gelatin fits into everyday cooking

Gelatin is easy to overlook because it doesn’t taste like anything. But that’s also what makes it so useful.

One of my favorite ways to use it now is in soup. I started adding a little to homemade chicken soup and vegetable soup, and it gave them a richer texture that made them feel more satisfying and slow-simmered.

It’s also surprisingly useful in smoothies, sauces, and no-bake desserts because it adds structure and texture without changing the flavor of what you’re making.

That’s part of why I chose Great Lakes Wellness Beef Gelatin. It’s unflavored, colorless, and odorless, so it blends into recipes easily whether you’re making something sweet or savory.

A fun recipe to try first: homemade gummies

Another favorite of mine, and probably one of the more fun ways to use gelatin, is homemade gummies.

I make them with fruit juice, lemon, and a little honey, then let the gelatin give them that chewy texture you normally only get from store-bought gummies. They’re easy, they taste good, make it easy to get some of the benefits associated with gelatin in something you’ll genuinely look forward to eating.

The health benefits I love

Because gelatin is derived from the same source as collagen, it contains amino acids often associated with support for digestion, joints, skin, hair, and nails.

That’s part of why it feels different from just adding a thickener or stabilizer to a recipe. It’s functional in the kitchen, but it also brings some of the same wellness benefits I was looking for in collagen products.  The best part for me has been the digestive benefits. When I add to my recipes, I find myself feeling fuller longer, and less focused on food noise throughout the day.

What made Great Lakes Wellness stand out

With gelatin, quality matters because the ingredient list is so simple.

Great Lakes Wellness Beef Gelatin is made from 100% high-quality, grass-fed bovine gelatin. It’s also kosher, keto-certified, paleo-friendly, iGen Non-GMO Tested, gluten-free, glyphosate-free, and made without preservatives.

That matters if you’re planning to use it regularly in recipes for yourself or your family. There aren’t flavors or sweeteners to hide behind, so the sourcing and standards matter more.

Why it’s staying in my pantry

This is the kind of product that earns its spot because it’s useful in more than one way.

It can make snacks more satisfying, help desserts hold together, and thicken soups and sauces without changing the flavor of what you’re making. It also gives you an easy way to bring some of the benefits people associate with collagen into actual food.

If you’re interested in making everyday recipes more filling, more functional, or just a little more satisfying, Great Lakes Wellness Beef Gelatin is an easy place to start.
