This is Our All-Time Favorite Gluten-Free Flour Mix

Searching for gluten-free ingredients used to be so hard. Tapioca flour? Potato starch? Sorghum flour? Yeah, those weren’t exactly items you’d find at our local grocery store. And making your own gluten-free flour mix is more than slightly messy, time-consuming, and cumbersome.

But as celiac and other gluten intolerances and allergies became more understood, the pre-made, gluten-free flour mixes started trickling onto shelves (and into our Amazon baskets). Needless to say, we were beyond excited — like seriously, Christmas-in-July type excitement. But a lot of the blends, unfortunately, were a bit disappointing: some worked well for cakes, but not breads. Others were too crumbly, gummy, or had a weird taste (looking at you, chickpea flour). But this one gluten-free flour blend we found? Works almost just like all-purpose flour!

Have we kept you in enough suspense?

Bob’s Red Mill 1:1 Baking Flour is Our Favorite Gluten-Free Flour Blend

After so much research (and equally ample trial and error), we finally deemed Bob’s Red Mill Gluten-Free 1:1 Baking Flour as our go-to. Aside from yeasted breads, this flour blend works well for almost all types of baking. Some of our favorite bakes with this flour? This party cake and these vegan raspberry donuts

As the name implies, this gluten-free flour mix can be used in the same ratio as all-purpose flour (i.e., no tinkering or adjusting). Another reason we love this particular combination: the ingredient list. Unlike some other brands that rely on cornstarch as their main ingredient, Bob’s Red Mill uses sweet rice flour, which is also dairy-free and vegan (some other blends use milk powder).

One note: this flour is perfect for gluten-free recipes that don’t require yeast. For those that do, use this other gluten-free flour. The next time you see a gluten-filled recipe on Pinterest, go ahead and pin it — you’ll actually be able to make it now!
